The skills behind the pieces

Having an inventory of over 25,000 antiques at your fingertips made our selection process a daunting task! Actually, we felt a bit like kids in a candy store.
As hard as it was, we whittled our collection to the primary core, but our job was still far from over. The chosen assortment needed to be recreated with the look, feel, charm and patina of the original antiques.

“Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Creations process

We invested lots of hours to master our finishing procedures - and still we are not close to thinking we have reached the end. Till now, we developed the most authentic recreations of old world finishes - a painstaking task that only VAN THIEL & CO. can do.

“The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.”

"The challenge is not loosing the soul and the heart of the original piece." Rudy Jr.

We choose partners all around the world that can work with us and translate into production the beautiful handmade pieces that we made in our own workshop.

When we started modern we asked ourselves what MODERN meant to us.

Though we have all of the innovative resources of a large-scale, modern manufacturer, we choose to work with a small group of select retailers from around the globe, capturing the imagination with artisanal craftsmanship that is rare and remarkable. Our inspiration comes from years of studying the history, culture and stories engrained in antiques while our finished product is the result of a creative eye for clean, modern design. This combination sets us apart and enables us to capture your history, your culture, your story — while helping advance your unique position in the marketplace.

Inspecting not just for quality — but style

Quality control is a pillar of the VAN THIEL & CO. standard of excellence, which is why almost all of our top company leaders reside close to our factories in Vietnam and India. We invest in outstanding quality assurance by personally guiding artisanal and large-volume production. Just as important is to inspect for design, finishing and overall style. We call this “Style QC”: upholding the VAN THIEL standard for striking aesthetics as well as the creative vision that we developed in collaboration with you.

Inspirated by Classic
"A black suit can be classic and timeless and certainly for most occasions. But remember, it's not so much the color of suit as it is about the fit, cut, style, and, of course, attitude you have when wearing it."
